Professional corporate photography advice
There are generally three types of professional corporate photography:
corporate events photography, corporate portrait photography, and product photography.
All these fields of corporate photography have their unique challenges and can be a very lucrative specialisation for a professional photographer, provided he or she knows what he or she is doing.
Corporate events photography involves taking photos and covering corporate events such as award ceremonies, product launches, conferences and company parties.
Covering these types of events is not simply a matter of going around the venue shooting photos. One must be able to capture important moments as well as take great photos of the persons and VIPs attending the event. Moreover, most corporate events usually occur indoors. Thus, a corporate events photographer must have the necessary equipment to address either inadequate or inappropriate indoor lighting.
Corporate portrait photography involves taking photos of a company’s employees and/or officers. These may be used in company identification cards, business cards, company publications, brochures and other literature as well as published annual reports to stockholders. Corporate portraits can also be used on a company’s website.
The finished product of this type of professional corporate photography being used to either help create a good impression or maintain the company’s reputation, a professional photographer in this field must be able to (besides being competent on the technical aspects of photography and lighting) make the subjects of his photos look the best that they can.
This means that he or she must be able to have the interpersonal skills to help his subject relax when the latter is before his or her camera so that the subject’s portrait will look natural, relaxed, confident and competent.
Finally, product photography as its name implies, involves the taking of photos of a company’s products to be used usually for promotional activities or printed catalogues and as product photos posted on a company’s website. Experts in lighting and composition, professional photographers in this field must be able to show a product in its best light and make it look attractive and desirable in the eyes of those looking at it. This kind of photography also involves manipulation of photographs, thus skills in editing as well as the necessary equipment for it is necessary.
