Advice on Photography For Weddings

photography for weddingsOne of the approaches to photography for wedding celebrations is the traditional approach.  This approach involves the use of formal or classical poses.  These images may be taken in the studio or during and after the ceremony itself.  The traditional approach may help emphasize the formality and solemnity of a wedding.

On the other side of the spectrum is the photo journalistic approach which, from its name approaches covering the occasion from editorial type reporting.   Candid and unposed photos taken during the day itself are the order of the day in this approach.

A third style of covering weddings is the fashion-based approach.  This is a combination of formal photos taken in a studio along with photos taken during the wedding itself.  It could also be seen as the middle ground between the photo journalistic and traditional approaches to photography for weddings as it makes use of both formal poses and candid shots.  The poses are often in the style of fashion magazines.

A fourth approach could be termed as the contemporary approach.  While this also makes use of formal and candid poses, it makes use of photography elements of lighting and composition to evoke and record the different emotions that can occur during a wedding—trepidation, anxiety, hope and joy.

This approach offers the most leeway for a professional photographer to exercise his or her creativity in his craft and can make for many nice and stunning wedding images.

Professional photographers can specialize on one or several approaches.  Do take the time to browse their portfolio to give you an idea how they do it.  They may be able to do some approaches better than others or their interpretation of a certain approach may not necessarily coincide with your idea of how it should be done.

When talking to a professional photographer about how to cover your wedding try to gauge how open he is to integrating your input into how he will cover your wedding. celebrations
