high-key photos of newborn babies

I have always loved newborn babies, ever since I was old enough not to be a one anymore.  Ask my sister and she will tell you that I will walk up to people in the shopping centre and tell them that their little newborn or baby is just the cutest little thing ever :-)

Once while shopping for books, I found this fantastic book called “Sleeping Beauties”, filled with high-key newborn baby photos and I instantly fell bought it and fell in love with this particular style of newborn photos.  Of course I had to shop around on my weekend for a few new props like textured materials (which are textures but still soft enough to place a newborn on) as well as baskets, a woven magazine holder and much more…

I was so excited that I phoned up a friend on that very same day and scheduled a photoshoot with her little darling Izabella who would be 16 days old on the day of this particular newborn photoshoot.  And so the day of the shoot finally arrived and the weather was miserable… But I was my mind was put to rest as we have a powerful aircon to heat the studio to just the perfect temperature to ensure this little angel woudl be perfectly comfortable.

Because this photoshoot was all about experimenting with the new props and lighting the shoot took roundabout three hours, with baby having a feed or two inbetween and a little picnic snacks for us ;-)

So have a look at our works of art and my new samples of high-key newborn photography and let me know what you think?

We did a photoshoot for a big corporate client called CFT labels last week.  They print self-adhesive labels and that is exactly what we went to photograph in stores in big shopping centres in JHB.  They supply labels to a wide variety of clients including ALL-JOY foods, Revlon and Almay.

When doing a commercial photoshoot it is really important to get a clear brief from your client as to what exactly they are looking to use the photos for?  Do they want the photos done professionaly in studio or do they want their product photographed in stores and plan your lighting accordingly.  Ideally you would want someone from the corporate company with you while photographing so that you can shoot that winning shot that they have in mind…

Have you noticed that all of a sudden every shopping centre has put up their Christmas Decorations and Specials?  Makes you realize how fast this year has gone by…
christmas present ideas

This always feels like the busiest time of the year to me.  You suddenly realize how mant things you have wanted to do this year which you havent gotten around to do (AND you still need to buy everybody presents).  Moms can now also start telling their kids that if they are naughty

they will get socks from Santa for christmas.  There was a desperate housewives episode where Lynette (a mom with 3 boys aged 6 and under) tells her sons that she has Father Christmas’s cellphone number (which she got from an elf who knows an elf whoo knows and elf) and if they don’t behave themselves she will phone Santa and tell him that they all want socks for Christmas… I laughed so hard!

I am a processional lifestyle photographer and photography is my passion. I would love to share my passion with you while capturing the special bond you share with your loved ones, while preserving the life changing moment when you make the biggest promise of your life or producing stunning imagery of your brand-new Ferrari…

My experience in the photography industry has taught me to produce technically superb images while capturing the very essence of everything I photograph.

Being followed by the lens of a professional photographer is a daunting experience and that is why I believe in making a shoot fun and enjoyable for every person present and voila – great photographs!

Driving to Durban normally takes roundabout 5 hours, do you agree? Add at least an hour and a half when you are travelling with me as I just can’t resist taking a “few” great landscape shots on the way. I am so engulfed in my passion for photography that sometimes I find it hard to define where I begin and my photography ends.

Being a woman I experience everything emotionally and strive to capture the magic of your special moments honestly.

Together You and I will create images that stir every emotion!

I sometimes tell people that if photography could be an addiction I would be a true addict… My family knows that by now I would stop in the middle of the road to look at an awesome photo or to compose a shot. It’s like photos just jump out at me everywhere I go. Sometimes I will be walking in the shopping centre and see a good looking guy or girl and I will immediately start forming the idea for a photo of them. I truly do what I love and that’s why I love what I do!!!

riani labuschagne professional photographerpassionate photographyHi, my name is Riani Labuschagne.  I’m a photographer and have been in the industry for 4 years.  I eat sleep and breathe photography and beautiful lighting.  My need to see and take beautiful photographs are the same as every human’s need to breathe.  I know it sounds dramatic, but I am a very visual person.  When a friend tells me a story I love hearing all about the detail because this slowly but surely sketches the picture in my mind.  I am constantly registering the changes in the light (when the sun shifts behind a cloud etc) and registering people’s facial expressions.  I sometimes even go so far as to see a man or woman in the shopping centre and immediately put them into a location, with lighting to match and seeing the final outcome of the shoot.

So I use my knowledge of the camera and creative eye to create beautiful portraits of you and your family, new baby or even your dog.  I absolutely love photography and am homoured to photograph each and every clients pride and joy!

When taking photos you are in theory doing the same thing every day by focusing the camera and pressing the shutter button.  But in reality you are doing a completely different thing every day.  One day I might be photographing a sweet little angel who is 2 weeks old, and the next I’ll be photographing someone’s flashy car.

By photographing people we are trying to capture their very essence, a split second of their life which will show other people a part of the subjects’ soul.  There is nothing better than having people telling you they love your shots and they appreciate your patience with their little ones, when in actual fact you were enjoying yourself as much as they were!

With having the gift of taking great photographs there also comes a curse(if I might call it that).  I have some family and friends thinking I’m from another planet sometimes.  I will just stop what I’m doing, look at the quality of the light and start babbling about how I would love to photograph a wedding couple right now.  Or we will be walking in a shopping centre and stop at a poster of something random just to have a look at the lighting in the photo.  Once I was doing this in Edgars looking at an Estee Lauder ad with Gwyneth Paltrow and I stood there studying the poster for such a long time, I had a shop assistant coming up to me asking if everything was allright and if she could help me… :-)

I constantly find myself admiring sunsets and the way light falls on peoples faces.  Being a photographer means you look at the world differently.  Im always on the lookout for photographic opportunities.  I loved taking photos in school and I then took it a step further by studying photography and becoming a professional photographer.  And I have never looked back…
