Someone was telling me today that her daughter is very creative, she draws, she paints but she is a very untidy person. And I caught myself thinking that this is the case with most creative people. We get so engrosses creating our “art” that we lose ourselves and anything that gets untidy, moved around or gets dirty is just part of this grand process.

What I am trying to say it doesn’t matter which medium you use to express your creativity, you are still a creative person. We need to find and cherish the things which inspire us. These are the things that help us further ou art. Even if it entails going to an old aeroplane graveyard and taking weird photos on an absolutely freezing day and photographing these old kings and queens of the sky just to get it out of our system. Art isn’t set in stone, there is no real rules and this is why if something feels right just go with that feeling for a while and you might just discover some magic at the end of the rainbow

They all came in green… And what amazing photos it made! Amanda, Dario & Henko were telling me how this was the only colour they all had that was the same.
I immediately felt this prickle of excitement as green is my absolute favourite colour
They are really laid back people and that always adds to the shoot. I asked them to take their shoes off for a more relaxed feel. Henko is eleven and still goes to school barefoot so we ended up with a few brown footprints on my white backdrop (ha ha ha)
Kind of reminds me of myself when I was that age, my mom had to threaten us to wear shoes to school when it started getting colder. Their dad’s birthday is coming up and they decided there isn’t anything more personal they could give him than photos of themselves having fun.
Photographing older kids in studio is a different challenge altogether. They’re very self-conscious about what they’re wearing and how they look. They start to develop an image you know…
Try to engage them in your shoot, have them suggest poses that they’re comfortable with and just go with the flow. Ask them about their favourite sport or find out what they’re passionate about and they’ll soon relax and interact with the camera.
I even asked the boys to come stand behind me and pull faces to catch mom with a natural smile… Can’t wait to hear what dad thinks of the pics!
“The shoot was so much fun thanks to Louise and Riani who managed to get smiles from everyone including a very tetchy 10 month old and a sulky 6 year old!
We had so many beautiful photos, it was impossible to choose –we ended up getting all of them!”
