Maternity photos have become the art form, and rightly so. Many people will debate about whether photography can be considered art, as it is in actual fat very mechanical, creating images through a machine. But when one gets to play with light in such wonderful ways, every photographer will tell you they are as true as any artist alive. Photography can become like breathing for us, it something that flows very naturally, and making magic happen is what we aim for in shoots. With a maternity shoot, one can play around with lighting so much, and use the light’s feathering to create shape, and bring back dimension.

That round tummy is a gorgeous shape, and we use it to its advantage. It’s not just the shape’s appeal, but the symbolism behind it, knowing a little life is growing inside the excited mommy, and that makes it extra special. There used to be a time where maternity photos weren’t very common, and it wasn’t a practice like it is now, to create beautiful images with mom and dad and their soon to be bundle. Now, it’s all about playing around with what is available to us, and shooting at angles to create captivating images.
