If you saw this magazine on the shelf, would you buy it just to know how to bake or where to buy some of this delectable cheese-cake? I certainly would! And this is exactly what food photography is all about. Taking photos of food to advertise it. Whenever we go out to a restaurant I always look at the photos first and then order my food (maybe it’s because I’m a photographer) but it goes to show you that the photos of your product makes a big impact when done professionally.
Beiing a food photographer in Johannesburg I have taken photos of food at coffee shops like Second Cup and exclusive hotels like The Raddison in Sandton. The location where you photograph the food should have a lot of natural lighting and you are good to go. The most important aspect when taking photos of food is to make sure your lighting is perfect. Not tioo many highlights blowing out, but ensure that you reflect light into the more darker areas too.
It sounds like something of an art doesn’t it? Well it is an artform of sorts. Patience is key, when setting up for your shot use a plate of similiar size to your dish and try and get your lighting as close to perfect as you can. Remember that your camera should normally be viewing the food at a 45 – 50 degree angle (this is the viewpoint from which we normally see food) For more information as well as tips contact us on info@louisedieselphotography.co.za or give us a call on 011 869 7759

We truly LOVE our photo’s. They are just so GORGEOUS. All of our photographs turned out more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. They look amazing. You captured the feelings and the beauty in every photo. We had so many to choose from. Jordan is growing and changing so fast, but they truly capture that special time of when he was a newborn. Now that it's gone forever, I will always look at your pictures...
