They say even brain surgeons have their own unique style of operating, almost as if they have a signature to their way of doing their job, and as such – photographers also have their own unique style. If you go through photography’s history, you will see many famous photographers, who became famous for specific reason, and who did things in their own unique way. Still do this day there isn’t a universal method of doing things – people prefer different things all the time, and photographers have their styles which appeal to different groups of people.

This is a follow on from yesterdays blog. Here we have the solo shots of the ladies from the group boudoir photo shoot. Ladies always seem to have more confidence in the company of friends.

When my cousin turned 25 she had the idea of wanting to have a shoot done with her close friends and family, in a boudoir style. On the day I had a quite a few nervous ladies not knowing what to expect and how exactly this was going to happen. As a photographer I know, that being in front of the camera could be daunting, it makes many people feel uncomfortable because they are not too sure what expect. It takes some skill to get people comfortable, one which I enjoy a lot. It means I get to connect with many people, most of them strangers who are clients I am meeting for the first time.

This shoot turned out to be such a success  as the girls enjoyed themselves tremendously. My cousin got her wish for her birthday, and opted for having a beautiful calendar made of all of her beloved ladies. When you want to have a special birthday done, and want to enjoy the time with your friends and create beautiful memories, something like a group boudoir shoot would be just the thing.

These are the types of things that make for extra-ordinary unique one-of-a-kind photos. We make sure to get everyone smiling and happy for the photos of the family. But with the younger children who live in imaginary worlds and have their own unique mannerisms and quirks, we want to get the best out of them and many times doing it in this way gets great reactions. Next time when you want to do a family shoot, you could even consider hiring some costumes, or bringing fun props – and then, let’s go play!

When we book shoots with clients, we always take care to chat with them a bit about the process, how it works, what they can expect, and especially what they need to bring with. This mommy was a real trooper, and said that they didn’t want standard family photos and even though we made sure to get big smiles, the shoot was one big play-date. The children’s giggles I can still remember today, especially their little girl who has a laugh that comes out of her stomach. They jumped and hopped and skipped, and she hired costumes for them to put on – and what fun images those are. Her husband and herself got jail-outfits and pretended to escape.Then they had some pirate outfits, and for the last stretch mom and dad blew them some bubbles to get images of the kids  catching them.

Photos on location are truly a favourite pastime of mine. They present a new challenge and seem to give people a new confidence, as the white backdrop of the studio set-up could sometimes overwhelm people. When we get to do the shoot on location  we use their environment. They connect with me in a different way because they show me their living space. The proud soon to be parents  show me their home, the baby’s room which is very special, and to see how things are all in their places for when baby arrives. It’s very exciting to see the father show you these things with a lot of pride.

This young woman just made my day by shooting with her, because she made me so excited for her future. She is interested in doing some modeling, either part time or full-time; she wants to see where it all goes. She had an amazingly sweet personality, a beautiful smile, and telling me about her studies and what she does in her spare time. When it came down to it she performed like a superstar, with great expressions, and posing as if she was made for it.

She is of Irish decent, and has a milky skin with these ice blue eyes, and one big mass of hair, which was great to work with. We had a great time shooting and she admitted that this was her first shoot ever; she had never done any shooting or modeling when she was younger. She has very striking features, and amazing lines to her, even though she is tiny in frame – a real dream come true for a photographer.

If you want to have great photos done of yourself  and you  aren’t quite sure how to go about it, the first places to start is with a  photoshoot, that shows your ways of holding yourself in front of the camera,  and it also shows you versatile. Our studio has done many amazing modeling- and portfolio shoots with international models, up-and-coming models, artists wanting to do a shoot for the cover of their album, or ordinary people just wanting to look great and want professional photos.
