There is just something so special about black and white photography…. It gives the images a completely different look and feel and I just love it!

The advantage with shooting digital photography is that we have so many options in post-production in what is now known as the “digital darkroom”. We can take an image and decide whether we want it to be black and white, sepia, full colour, duotone, monotone, the options are endless….

Of course, it is best to decide beforehand whether you will be using the image as a black and white or colour, as there are certain things you would do slightly differently when taking the actual photograph. I usually increase the contrast a lot more if I am planning to use the photo as a black and white image (even though you can fix this up afterward with your editing software….)

At the end of the day, photography is a really subjective thing and we find that just as many of our clients request images in black and white as they do in colour…. that’s why they say: “beauty is in the eye of the beholder…..”
