Babies grace us with their presence because we need them; the world wouldn’t be the same without the cuteness and soft skins that only babies have. And even thought they are completely dependent on their parents or guardians for food & comfort & shelter, they make a whole room stand still, & they just have to whimper to be attended to. Although they can’t speak yet, they do talk to us, through wriggling bodies & cries, gummy smiles and expressions.
It’s exactly these we would want to capture, in your baby’s own unique way. The studio should never be a negative experience for any person, especially babies who could find the lights flashing so much quite disturbing. With their parents’ calming voices and the comfort of having them there, most babies get to cool down and then, we just have to push through for some great shots.
It’s never a bad idea to want to have photographs taken of your baby; the timing just has to work out as much as possible for the best. Bringing your baby when they have been fed, and had a good nap, is probably best, that’s when they are at their most calm no matter what age, & then isn’t phased too much with what goes on around them. Even when they won’t smile, because very new babies still don’t quite have that ability yet, at least if we can get baby just to look at our camera, and naturally just be themselves, you’ll be sure to still love your photos, and remember how little one looked when they were that small.

I take my hat off to Riani on how she handled our boys during the shoot! She took the most amazing photos, even though our boys were all over the place...
