I had the pleasure of photographing Jeanette, Miguel and Sienna (isn’t it a grogeous name?) in my studio this morning.  I met them at a friend’s wedding at Kloofzicht Lodge where I took photos of every couple attending the wedding and printed out thank you cards on location with every couple’s photo.  Very unique isn’t it?

Little Sienna is 4 months old and has the most beautiful brown eyes…  She almost looks like she could be family of Demi-Leigh’s.  Sienna has definitely stolen both her mom and dad’s hearts, and with good intentions   She is such a friendly little girl, who only cried when we undressed her for the classic nude baby photos.  I absolutely love photographing babies, I am always the one crazy person who will walk up to a mom with a baby and start cooing to the baby and asking the mom THE QUESTIONS like how old… blah blah blah… 

Like I said I’ve got a thing about babies, would love to have four of my own one day (yes you heard right I said 4)

My dogs have been on my mind a lot lately so I’ve decided to write about them today.  I have two fairly young dogs, Dawit is 11 months old and Bella is almost 6 months old.  Talk about raising two kids   Dawit is old enough to bark at night when he hears something but then again he is also still young enough to stand on the bonnet of my car (when it is standing still) or to be just as naughty as little Bella digging up potplants from their pots (I think he rationalises it this way, if Bella can do it why cant I?  Can you see that this is a very frustrating viewpoint for me?)

Boxer dogs are good looking dogs with chiseled heads, a square jaw and very muscled body.
A boxer’s hearing is it’s most well developed sense.  Personally I can never get enough of my Boxer dogs’ good traits! They’re always watchful and on alert, definitely an instinctive guard dog, but also a cozy (energetic might I add) housedog that is quite sensitive to temperature extremes.  Dogs use the airway of the nasal passage to cool down and regulate their body temepratures, because boxers tend to have a bit of a flat face these airways are a great deal shorter than the average dogs’ and hence the sensitivity to temperature changes.If you look at the photo above, now if that isn’t cute I don’t know what is?   Boxer dogs are very lovable and have tons of personality, so much that I sometimes wonder to myself if my dogs know what I’m thinking.  (People always tell me all dogs are like this but it’s just not the same)  Boxers are chilled dogs and will not bark without a cause, they have extremely expressive face with a wrinkled forehead and dark soulful eyes.  (I bought an e-book called Boxer Savvy on how to train boxer dogs and at one point they tell you to better train your dog, you have to stop looking into their soulful brown eyes and focus on the task at hand.  The moment I read that I just started laughing as that was exactly the mistake I was making… LOL) As a boxer dog owner I can tell you that Boxers are highly intellegent, extremely playful and very naughty if not well trained (and no, traditional spanking and dog training doesn’t work because the term ”traditional dog” doesn’t apply to boxers) “If you ask a boxer dog owner about the resemblance of his dog to himself, he’d probably tell you that his dog can almost mirror his mood! ” – Unknown

Here are some tips on photographing your dogs: If you have a point and shoot camera switch your camera to sport mode.  If you have aa SLR camera open up your aperture(f5.6 or f4.5) so that you will be able to shoot at a faster shutter speed. Firstly consider what type of personality your dog has, is he/she lazy, very playful or just overall very loving because this is the most important aspect of pet photography.  Try photographing your dog while someone is throwing a ball or a frisbee to make your photos more dynamic and exciting.  If your dog has been trained tell it to sit and stay (like a formal-pose) which will bring an almost human-like air to your photo, and lastly get someone to take a few photos of you playing and hugging your dog (ok you will probably get licked in the face a few times, but that’s a risk you will just have to take…   ) I hope these tips on photography will make the art of photographing your dog a little easier!!  From one dog lover to another, Take care!
