I recently did a professional model photoshoot with a fantastic model named Melissa.  Melissa is really young matriculated in 2007 and started her modelling when she was still in school, but in the professional modelling scene age isn’t really a factor, being young is considered a positive point.  She has great looks and potential, awesome eyes that just catch and hold your attention every time you look at her photos. 

Phillip (who’s also in the photos) is Melissa’s steady boyfriend and we just had to take a few pics for them to have as cute couple photos.   I always love to watch couples, even when photographing them, there is just  that indescribable bond that we call love and true magic lies in capturing that special feeling.

I found this rundown factory as a  location by accident a few years ago in Alberton.  I was still in school and had a little accident with my mini, so obviously I didn’t have a lot of money to go to a panelbeater, a friend referred me to a great panelbeater who has a shop in this warehouse, and since I set eyes on it the first time, it’s always the first thing that pops into my head when I need a location for a professional photoshoot be it for modelling/ band photos etc.

Having a modelling portfolio is of the utmost importance if you plan on getting anywhere in the modelling industry.  If you have a look on the internet at modelling photos you will find the photos you are drawn to are the ones that have been professionally done.  Using a professional photographer might be a little costly, but rather get someone who takes photos and poses loads of models every day as they know what they are doing and they have an absolute passion for their work.  Remember, your photos will be advertised on loads of websites and that means their name will also be displayed everywhere so they’ll only give their best to make a name for themselves and also for you.

We did a studio photoshoot for friends of ours the other day and I was really quite envious of the lovely photographs that we managed to get. The thing that made the photos so special was the fact that there were 4 generations all together in one photograph!!!

There was the great grandmother, granny, mother and daughter all together – All women!! (well one little girl, but an incredible woman in the making) All from one family!! All together in one professional photograph!!!

I think this is just so special and the reason I am so envious is that I cannot get photos of my family like that any longer. I now have a daughter of my own, but my granny and my ouma (Demi-Leigh’s great grandmothers) are no longer with us, at least not in body anyway. They will always be in my heart and I guess that’s what counts, but I sure would have loved to have a photograph of all of us together.

Call me sentimental but that is just something so special to have – so if you are looking for a special mother’s day gift, why not give the gift that lasts beyond time, from generation to generation and capture those special times while you still can. Even if it is just family photos such as your mom and yourself or your dad and yourself – or your granny and you or your grandfather and your children – whoever is special in your life! Just get the pics done. One thing I know for sure is that you will treasure them forever!!

(Being a mother myself, no matter how many photographs I take of my children, I just can’t get enough of them as they remind me every day of the speical times we share together and the incredible love we have for each other – photographs are a reminder and a celebration of a family and theunconditional love they have for each other – to me there can be no better gift…)

When youre a professional musician who’s launching a new cd your cd cover should portray your image, what your all about.  So it’s really important to put a lot of effort into it and use a professional photographer and graphic designer who understands your music to photograph and do the design for you.

 Terry is from Angola and she is currently on holiday and visiting her sister here in South-Africa. Terry has been singin since she’s 9 and have always wanted to be a professional singer.  She has already recorded her cd and just have to make some minor adjustments.  Now that she has some free time on her hands she has decided to have her Photograph done for the front cover. 

 This shoot turned out to be great fun Terry had hired a professional make-up artist to do different make-up for every outfit (bit time consuming) and she brought three totally different outfits.  She was very shy at first but her shyness soon dissipated and she soon came alive and enjoyed her professional shoot.

 Terry will have the artwork done in Angola and then combine the two to form the cover of her first album.  All the best Terry!!

Since I have been to quite a few weddings I thought it was high time I started telling you a bit more about these great Gauteng wedding venues.

Let’s start with Thaba Ya Batswana.  Thaba Ya Batswana is situated in the South of Johannesburg and is great if your looking for an African/Bush feel for your wedding. Theyre
on top of a brilliant koppie which makes for the most beautiful view.  Their Chapel has big windows running along either side so there is more than enough natural for great
wedding photos of the bridal couple at the altar.  The scenery is brilliant right through the year as there is lots of veld with long grass which always work well in wedding
photos.  Thaba Ya Batswana has 2 function halls, so it doesn’t matter if your wedding is small and intimate or if you have the whole Greek family at your wedding they have the
ideal space.  PS- Their food is also never a disappointment

The moon and sixpence:
I can still remember with the first wedding I photographed here at the Moon and Sixpence I was so awe inspired by the layout and beauty of this perfect wedding venue that I felt
like skipping and jumping for joy.  They’re situated in the North of Johannesburg in Muldersdrift and let me tell you it’s well worth the drive.  This unique wedding venue
offers two totally different chapels and reception halls. They have a great garden with a variety of flowers ranging from agapanthus’s right through to fuschias.  This venue
has been specifically designed with great architectural features like stairs, square tiles with flowers in between, fountains and loads more. Their food is well presented and
really appetising!I can’t even describe to you how good their food was   This venue is any photographer’s dream! I’d love to have my wedding there!
