If you’re looking for a great wedding DJ, keep reading for five great search tactics that are sure to find you the perfect entertainment professional for your event.
Consult a Local Forum
Word-of-mouth is a great way to collect referrals and recommendations about local service providers. And the best part about message boards? You don’t even have to leave your house. So, try logging on to a local town wedding forum to collect wedding DJ referrals from brides and recent brides right in your own city.
Popular sites include the Wedding Bells magazine website (weddingbells.ca), which has regional message boards, or – for example – the Edmonton Wedding Guide site (edmontonweddingguide.com), which is more localized, but less well known.
On a local wedding forum, you can obtain advice from women in your town rather than referrals for companies in New York or L.A. You can also find great advice on photographers, makeup artists and more.
Ask Your Photographer
Most popular wedding photographer will do one or more weddings a week. Over the course of a year, that’s at least 52 weddings. This means they’ve seen a lot of DJ companies, from the best to the worst.
So, if you trust your photographer, be sure to consult them on their recommendations. Alternately, if you already have a potential DJ in mind, ask them if they’ve ever worked with that person or company and what they think.
Go to the Bridal Expo
There are three major bridal shows and wedding exhibitions in the Edmonton area – Bridal Fantasy, which is twice a year; Edmonton Bridal Expo, which is a massive autumn exhibition; and the Bridal Fair, which is typically held at the Shaw Conference Center.
While a Bridal Fair may be overwhelming, they can be a great place to not only check out multiple DJ and entertainment companies, but also to meet them for informal, impromptu interviews.
You can check out their gear, their music selection, their prices and their personalities. For many weddings, the DJ also performs as your informal MC, meaning you want to find someone that meshes with your personality and wedding style. So, instead of calling tons of companies or running all around town, you can get it all done in one place.
Stay Away From Do-It-All Wedding Factory Companies
You’ll often see wedding entertainment companies that offer massive packages which include your limo, videography, photography and DJ services. But, the question is – do you want someone that does everything fairly well or someone that does one thing with particular skill?
Ideally, you want a DJ that knows how to DJ and is going to do the job well. You wouldn’t hire a photographer to cater your food or a florist to officiate your reception, so why hire a limo company to handle your reception entertainment?
Ask The Venue
There are only so many wedding venue locations in any town, meaning the popular ones are often booked solid with weddings. And, like your photographer, they see a parade of wedding DJ companies week after week.
Because most venues host numerous weddings every year, they get to hear and see a wide range of DJ’s – meaning they often know who is good and who might be better to avoid.
If your dogs are as lively as mine it could be a bit of a ‘mission impossible’ to photograph them… Let me introduce you to my dogs Sheba and Dawit. Sheba(the fawn one) is the mom and Dawit(the brindle one) is Sheba’s son.
If you are Afrikaans by
any chance you would understand when I say my hond is da wit en da wit en da wit…:-)
They are
thoroughbred boxers and let me tell you theyre great family dogs. We always joke and tell them to repeat
after me:” I am a dog not a human being”. They thrive under your
attention and need tons of love. If not trained properly they can be very naughty so I would definitely recommend taking them for training sessions.
The day these photographs
were taken we were all sitting outside in the pool when I decided there is no better time as the present to get some great shots of them. We sprayed them with the water, most of these dogs love to play with water but not to swim in it. No one ever really understands when I tell them boxers are
totally different to any other dogs, they’re like part of the family.
At one time there was a Telkom ad on TV with a boxer running over the whole farmyard when he hears the
telephone ring just to hears his owners voice all the way from china. Pilot the boxer gets so excited that he just can’t stand still and that’s exactly how they are when you
get home from work or a holiday. They just love to be around you and play games all day. With my dogs if I lie underneath the car to check if something’s wrong they’ll plop
themselves down beside me and watch everything I do.
Friends of ours also has boxers who were always digging their new plants out of the flowerbeds, and one day they realized why. When a boxer sees you digging in
your garden he thinks you are burying something there for him to find. Simple solution, put them on the other side of the house and don’t let them see that you are gardening.
Tips for photographing your dogs:
Have some treats handy and reward them when they are listening to you (I kept telling them to sit and stay)
Get an accomplice, have them call the dog to them and when it’s over there, get ready to take the shot and call your dog back.
Make everything a game, dogs are eager to please and love playing with you (keep your camera on sport mode). Try to get some natural shots like when they’re sleeping or playing with each other.
Take photos of all the different things they do as well like swim in the fish pond or lie underneath the car.
As a young kid I always wanted to become a veterinarian (I think all kids go through this phase) I’m one of those crazy people who has a conversation with my dogs, give them nicknames and spoils them just a liittllle bit
I really adore my dogs and love all animals, and if it wasn’t for my mom I
would probably have my own little zoo!
Riani

The best thing about having a studio at home and a photographer that just loves taking photos (in fact I think obsessed is more like it – Riani might even have OCD when it comes to photography (lol)) but the best thing is that she takes soooo many photographs of my children.
I just had to post a few of these pics that Riani took of my baby girl – these are the first official photographs of Demi-Leigh as a 1 year old! Can’t believe she is so big already (how time flies when you’re having fun!!!) And yes, as you can see from the pics, she is walking – I am so proud of her.
Okay, I am proud of my baby boys too (my babies even though they are 5 and 6 years old already – haha). They went to tennis clinic today as it is school holidays and Mikey won man of the match! and Jamie won the game: “jail” – must be the south side of him coming out there (lol)
They are so beautiful, especially now that they are sleeping (lol) the tennis and swimming really takes it out of them. Tomorrow we are going on a teaching course (can’t wait- will write all about it next week) so they are going to sleep at granny and grandad’s house and boy are they excited! It is such a big thing for them – it’s really special!
Little Taylin came to my studio this morning. A little bundle of energy and extremely friendly I can tell you!!
Taylin is 9 months old and was crawling all over the
studio
and examining everything she laid her little eyes on.
Louise bought this round girly box to use in the studio and to photograph her little princess Demi in and I never thought
it could make such a nice prop.
I will definitely be on the lookout for other big objects like this to get great natural photographs of kids in.
Craig and Kim decided to have a professional photoshoot done to use as funky christmas gifts for family and friends. The great thing about photos is that they last forever!
We also offer studio vouchers that you can purchase now and give to loved ones as a christmas gift (the voucher can be redeemed until March next year)
You don’t have to be
pregnant or have kids to do a photoshoot, bring your man along for a fun couple shoot or do a portfolio model shoot and look like the model you’ve always knew you were…
Send us an email to find out more about this great christmas gift idea!
When a bride begins to coordinate her wedding preparations, that is one of the most exciting times of her life – in anticipation of the coming marriage. From hunting down a reliable professional wedding photographer to the music and more, organizing all the particulars that help to make the day so memorable are huge.
The wedding venue itself is certainly among them, and the city of Philadelphia serves as an excellent choice.
If you’re in the midst of some serious Philadelphia wedding planning, keep reading for five great tips that are full of local resources sure to make your wedding planning experience simple and enjoyable.
Tour a Wedding Show or Bride Expo
Bride expos or wedding shows are a great way to evaluate multiple wedding suppliers and vendors in one spot and in one day. So, instead of calling around to different vendors or hitting the Philadelphia streets, you can simply spend a day at the bridal fair.
Bridal Event (bridalevent.com) seems to have the monopoly on bridal shows in the Philadelphia area and hosts a number of seasonal bridal expos and wedding shows across Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Check their website for upcoming dates, times and locations.
Get Your Photography Permits
Philadelphia is the city of brotherly love, and wedding photo opportunities are everywhere. Whether you want to take your shots at the infamous LOVE statue or beautiful city hall, Philadelphia is a city that’s brimming with history, tradition and romantic settings. However, remember to arrange your photo permits before you start shooting.
For example, to take pictures at the Longwood Gardens you need to fill out a permission slip, pay admission for each member of your wedding party and adhere to a strict no tripods and no lights rule. Other areas in the city, like Fairmount Park, also require permits, so plan ahead.
Get In Touch Online
If you’re in the midst of Philadelphia wedding planning, you need to get online to make your life easier. Try a national wedding website like TheKnot (theknot.com) or a local site like PA Brides (pabrides.com) to connect with vendors, other brides in your area or research wedding ideas.
Try logging on to local forums to connect with other brides in your area. They can offer advice or recommendations for service providers as well as provide an understanding ear.
Invest in a Philadelphia Wedding Planner
Of course the “city of brotherly love” is home to piles of well-qualified wedding planners. So, if you need someone to take over the whole process or just a one-hour consultation to help with budgeting or other plans, check the yellow pages or the websites listed above for a recommended, local planner. Popular companies include The Wedding Factor, Megan Kennedy Events and I Do Wedding Consulting.
Check Out Philadelphia Wedding Magazine
Philadelphia Wedding magazine only comes out four times a year, but its pages are full of local ideas, creative resources and helpful suppliers.
So, rather than waste your time on national publications that don’t offer the local information you need, use this local publication as your Philadelphia wedding planning guidebook.
“The shoot was so much fun thanks to Louise and Riani who managed to get smiles from everyone including a very tetchy 10 month old and a sulky 6 year old!
We had so many beautiful photos, it was impossible to choose –we ended up getting all of them!”
