There are generally three types of corporate photography. These include corporate portrait photography, photo coverage of special events, and product photos.
Corporate portrait photography involves having to take portraits of corporate officers, usually for the purpose of including these portraits in corporate publications such as an annual report to stockholders.
Corporations also hold special events which they want to record with photos. These photos can also be used for corporate publications or as photo releases to media publications. Product photos are portraits of a company’s products. These are used in promotional materials or in the corporation’s website.
Whatever type of corporate photography you are asked to undertake, there are some things one should keep in mind.
- Always take the time to get to know your clients and find out exactly what they are looking for. When you are able to accomplish what they are looking for, chances are great that they will become repeat clients of yours later on.
- Always keep lighting in mind. Whether you are taking photos of people, events or products, proper and adequate lighting is necessary to get desirable results. In a photo studio, lighting can be easily controlled. When it comes to other indoor or outdoor locations however, it may be necessary to visit the venue before hands so that you get an idea about lighting conditions and take the necessary steps.
- Using the right equipment is a must. Although great photos can be taken using a digital point and shoot camera, only a professional grade camera will do for professional jobs. Some photographers still prefer to use film, but digital cameras provide one with the convenience of seeing the photos taken right away so that a photographer knows whether or not he or she has to take additional shots of the subject to get the results he or she wants.
Finally, before a shoot, make sure your equipment is in good order. This means that your camera is working properly (having a back-up camera body is a must), its batteries are fully charged (and that you have fully charged extra batteries just in case), and that you have adequate film or space in the memory card of your camera.
