Corporate Event Photography – Some Advice And Tips
Corporate event photography is one of the types of corporate photography. It involves the taking of photos of employees and guests in corporate events such as conferences, parties, sales events, product launches and receptions.
If one wishes to make a career out of becoming a professional photographer, corporate event photography should be one skill one should master as it can become a very lucrative profession. Here are four tips to help you along.
The camera is one of the primary tools of a photographer. As a photographer, one should become intimately familiar with the camera he or she uses. Although it would help to read the manual and other literature about cameras, a better way of becoming familiar with one’s camera is to practice with it. Practice with your camera every chance you can get. Take photos indoors and outdoors and experiment with different lenses, settings and subjects. Keep in mind however, that most corporate events take place indoors.
Before covering an event, make sure all of your equipment is working properly, that you have spare batteries for your camera and flash and that you have an adequate amount of film. If you are using a digital camera, make sure you have enough memory space on the memory card and bring spares.
Do try to visit the venue before hand to get an idea about lighting conditions and interesting backgrounds. Take test shots of the place to have a better idea on how they actually come out on photos. Keep in mind that adequate preparation will minimize mistakes and allow you to focus more on taking photos instead of troubleshooting your equipment.
When covering corporate events, you can expect that you will be taking photos of people. Try to avoid cluttered and messy backgrounds when taking your photos. Try to frame your shots differently too as it can get monotonous when the people you are taking photos of are centered in the frame. When taking group photos, avoid positioning them so that they look like they are in a firing squad.
Keep in mind do dress appropriately and be polite and unobtrusive. Never interrupt people when they are in the middle of an involved or important conversation. Catch them in a relaxed mood and they will be more willing to pose for you.
